Eco-Arts Alive Artist Residency
April 1- 29, 2022

Shala Sol Arts Council envisions a world where ecological art is the foundation of culture and daily life within grassroots community and globally.
Our mission is to provide artists’ with workspace, classes, and exhibition opportunities that encourage their unique voice and vision to rise to full potential as they express individual and collaborative works in the local and global commons. In alliance with the earth, all creatures and ecosystems under great threat in current times, we whole heartedly welcome artists to waken the masses to see through the lens of revitalised holistic guardianship of Pachamama, our home. Creative potential is vast within this genre.

At the heart of the Eco-Arts Alive Residency, is the invitation to explore sustainable earth design, recycled and upcycled  materials and subject matter with a focus in topics which specifically address proactively inspired new world environmental wellbeing. Artist residents will work primarily on autonomous projects with the opportunity to cocreate and curate works collectively with one another and other community members for an exhibition to take place during the last week of the residency.

We will accept 4-6 artists for this 4 week residency taking place April 1-29, 2022.  During this time each artist will deep dive into a personal project that will address a self-chosen theme related to the new earth paradigm.  Artist residents will have open access to shared loft studio space for visual art production and large open sala space for dance, theater, and music as well as additional outdoor covered production studio space with views toward the Diamante Ridge.

Local artists Sara Luz, Susannah Tedesco, Chia Ortegón, Phoebe Marie and Anashay Amaya will facilitate weekly artistic development workshops open to resident artists.

Each week of the residency there will also be group day trip opportunities offered to residents as a way to take a break from artistic work and simply enjoy and experience the abundant beauty of the southern zone of Costa Rica.

The total cost of the 4 week residency is $2000.  This includes private room accommodation with shared bathroom and 3 beautiful organic vegetarian meals daily.
