Wise Women Rise Artist Residency

January 6-February 3, 2022

Shala Sol Arts Council envisions a world where womens’ role as creatrixes  is essential to the societal mainstream and permanently recorded in history.
Our mission is to provide artists’ with workspace, classes, and exhibition opportunities that encourage their unique voice and vision to rise to full potential as they express individual and collaborative works in the local and global commons.

An integral part of our program development is specifically to provide women artists with professional development opportunities and to promote programs designed to stimulate community involvement, cultural awareness, and support for the arts. This is the heart of the Wise Women Rise Artist Residency, in which we will work primarily on autonomous projects with the opportunity to cocreate and curate our works collectively for an exhibition during the last week of the residency.

We will accept 4-6 women for this 4 week residency taking place January 6 - February 3,  2022. During this time each artist will deep dive into a personal project that will address a self-chosen theme related to women’s role in the new earth paradigm.  Artist residents will have open access to shared loft studio space for visual art production and large open sala space for dance, theater, and music as well as additional outdoor covered production studio space with views toward the Diamante Ridge.

Local women artists Sara Luz, Chia Ortegón, Fae Belle, Susannah Tedesco and Anashay Amaya will facilitate weekly artistic development workshops open to resident artists.

Each week of the residency there will also be group day trip opportunities offered to residents as a way to take a break from artistic work and simply enjoy and experience the abundant beauty of the southern zone of Costa Rica.

The total cost of the 4 week residency is $2000.  This includes private room accommodation with shared bathroom and 3 beautiful organic vegetarian meals daily.
